Aug 20, 2015 External data in Excel 2016 for Mac. We examined how we could improve external data for Excel 2016 for Mac and made the following changes: Excel 2016 for Mac comes with a pre-installed and integrated SQL Server ODBC driver, which we worked hand-in-hand with Simba Technologies to provide.
- 1 Create XML Data From Excel 2003
- 2 Change the Gridlines in Word on a Mac
- 3 Insert a Border in OpenOffice
- 4 Copy and Paste Embedded Bing Maps
An XML map allows a business to arrange data stored in XML documents so that the information can be easily imported into a predefined table in an application such as Microsoft Excel. In this way, the company can collect data from multiple sources and merge it into a table seamlessly. Use Excel to combine multiple data sources in XML documents by creating a map in a spreadsheet that contains the predefined table information. Once the map is in place, the data can be imported smoothly into the table.
1.Click the “File” tab on the Excel ribbon menu at the top of the application window and select “Options.” Select the “Customize Ribbon” option from the menu. Place a check mark in the “Developer” box in the ribbon customization box on the right, and then click the “OK” button to add the Developer tab to your Excel ribbon menu along the top of the application.
2.Click on the “Developer” tab in the ribbon menu. Select “Source” in the XML group within the tab. An XML Source dialog window will open.
3.Click “Xml Maps” in the pop-up window and click the “Add” button to open a file browser. Use the browser to navigate to the location of your .xsd schema file for the XML data. The schema file contains the table information for the data contained in the XML data file. Highlight the schema file and click “Open.” Click the “OK” button to display the schema with table information within the Xml Maps window.
4.Drag the first line of the schema table information from the Xml Maps window to the cell within the spreadsheet where you wish to display the XML data. Drop the line within the cell to recreate the table headings in a row of cells across the spreadsheet.
5.Click the “Import” option on the Developer tab to open the “Import XML” window with the file browser. Navigate to the location of the XML file containing the data for your table. Highlight the data file and then click “Import” to map the data directly to the spreadsheet under the table information, recreating the XML table within your Excel spreadsheet.

Hi Aj8,
A brief search on the Microsoft support site led to a page that suggested (to my reading) the Developer tab would be the place to look for this, if it exists. I have some doubt concerning that, as any reference to XML, other than saving files in an XML format, was in articles that did not include Excel 2016 for Mac in the 'applies to' list.
Should a more knowledgable answer not appear here, I'd suggest you might have a better chance at the Microsoft Community site. (Although it appears MS has folded the Office for Mac community into the larger 'Office' community.)
Regards,
Barry
